Assessment of bioavailable heavy metals in compost-treated soils

Assessment of bioavailable heavy metals in compost-treated soils

Chemicals in the environment: 772-777

Speciation of heavy metals in two refuse-compost treated soils was determined by a sequential chemical extraction (H2O, KNO3, DTPA). Bioassay with wheat seedlings grown on the same compost-treated soils showed that the uptake of heavy metals is generally lower than the "available forms" estimated by the chemical extraction.
