Assessment of blackgram varieties for resistance to powdery mildew and yellow mosaic virus

Assessment of blackgram varieties for resistance to powdery mildew and yellow mosaic virus

Current Research, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore 16(3): 41-42

A total of 29 varieties of Phaseolus mungo were screened in the field for resistance to Erysiphe polygoni using a 0 (no leaf infection) to 5 (>50% of leaf area infected) scale; the values were converted to percentages in a disease index with 4 categories, ranging from resistant (0-1%) to highly susceptible (10.1% and above). Virus resistance was determined by counting the number of plants with typical leaf symptoms per variety and converting the values to percentages.
