Assessment of housing systems for fattening bulls by the indicators concept

Assessment of housing systems for fattening bulls by the indicators concept

KTBL Schrift, Kuratorium fur Technik und Bauwesen in der Landwirtschaft eV, German Federal Re ic (323): 214-231

Three fattening bull housing systems with differing space per animal, flooring and feeding systems (deep litter yard, slatted floor yard and tie-stall with mechanical manure disposal) were compared. Bulls in the deep litter yard were fed silage, hay and concentrates whilst the others received compound feed pellets. Behavioural observations showed that bulls in the deep-litter yard could cover their behavioural requirements and that animals in the other systems had longer lying periods.
