Assessment of lactation performance in women

Assessment of lactation performance in women

Human lactation 2 Maternal and environmental factors: 215-230

Various measures of lactation performance are discussed. Qualitative and semi-quantitative measures include duration of lactation and suckling frequency, which vary considerably amongst different mammals and in humans of different social groups. Introduction of supplementary foods is not considered a very sensitive indicator of lactation performance, nor is growth in the second half of infancy, but infant health and intellectual development may be a more effective measure.
