Assessment of postmining ground-water quality at Wyoming coal mines

Assessment of postmining ground-water quality at Wyoming coal mines

Second hydrology symposium on surface coal mining in the Northern Great Plains: 28 p.

Water quality before and after mining was studied using data for various sites in Wyoming. Significant correlations were found between calcium and magnesium contents, calcium and sulphate contents and magnesium and sulphate contents. Ground water samples from coal mine spoil in the Powder River basin, Wyoming showed decreases in pH and increases in calcium, sodium, magnesium and sulphate contents with time.
