Assessment of the resistance of maize stems to bending and determination of the bonding power of ears to stems and sheaths to ears

Zeszyty Naukowe Akademii Rolniczej we Wrocawiu, Rolnictwo (43): 31-41

The forces required to break the stems of 5 maize were determined and stem diam., the position of the fractures and the amount of Fusarium infection of the stem bases were considered. The strength of attachment of ears to stems was analysed in relation to the diam. of the ear base and the angle between ear and stem. The strength of attachment of the ear sheath was also measured.
