Assessment of yield loss due to mustard aphid Lipaphis erysimi Kalt in some important varieties of raya

Eleven varieties of Indian mustard were screened against Lipaphis erysimi in the field in Rajasthan, India, in 1979-80. Aphid infestation reduced plant height, number of secondary branches per plant, number of siliquae per plant and seed weight. Seed yield losses varied from 8.6 to 57.5% depending on the variety tested. Treatment with 4 sprays of 0.03% dimethoate at fortnightly intervals gave significantly higher yields and increased economic returns.
