Assimilation of fertilizer nitrogen by winter wheat on irrigated serozem soils of Kirgizia

In pot trials with winter wheat grown in a serozem soil given PK, the coeff. of utilization of 120 and 180 kg N/ha as ammonium nitrate varied from 24.4 to 46.7% depending on rates and dates of application; it was highest with 120 kg N applied in 2 equal split dressings in early spring and early May. Fertilizer N and soil N contributed 28.3-32.5 and 67.5-71.7%, resp., to total N uptake. Utilization of the NO3-N was higher than that of NH4-N from ammonium nitrate.
