Association analysis in safflower

Journal of Oilseeds Research 3(2): 242-245

A 3-year study of height, plant spread and widest angle of branching to the main stem in 1000 Indian varieties revealed the existence of 4 varietal groups, namely (1) tall compact, (2) tall lax, (3) dwarf compact and (4) dwarf lax. A comparison of yield correlations among 100 varieties representing the 4 groups identified head diameter as a major yield component in tall compact types, while number of heads per plant was the most important yield component in the other 3 types.
