Association between development of the main morphological characters and yield in wheat in relation to breeding

In a 3-year study of the correlations between grain yield/unit area and 4 yield components in 8 varieties, 3 main characters were found to determine yield, viz. number of productive tillers/unit area, number of grains/ear and 1000-grain weight. In each variety the characters had a particular and different importance.
