Association of resistance to powdery mildew in wheat with proteinase inhibitor activity

In a comparison of 6 varieties and forms resistant to Erysiphe graminis, 3 moderately resistant and 4 susceptible, trypsin inhibitor activity was higher before and after infection in grain of resistant than of susceptible forms. The increase in inhibitor activity after infection was greater in moderately resistant than in highly resistant or susceptible forms.
