Association of seedling vigour with grain yield and nutritional quality in sorghum

In a study of 5 male-sterile lines, 8 inbreds and 40 hybrids between them, vigour of 20-day-old seedlings (measured on a 1-5 scale) was significantly correlated with grain yield (positively), grain protein percentage (negatively) and percentages of lysine and tryptophan in the protein (both positively). The correlations were observed under both full and limited irrigation.
