Association of yield components in arboreum cotton

Sixty four F5 progenies and three female parents in cotton (Gossypium arboreum L.) were grown at two locations, viz. Ludhiana and Kheri [India] to determine the relative importance of different yield components. Seed-cotton yield had strong positive genetic association with bolls/plant, boll weight and seed index, whereas with halo length and ginning outturn its association was negative. The selection index and path analysis revealed that bolls/plant and boll weight were the most important yield contributing characters.
