Asymbiotic germination and plantlet formation by the aseptic culture of temperate Cymbidium seeds

Asymbiotic germination and plantlet formation by the aseptic culture of temperate Cymbidium seeds

Journal of the Korean Society for Horticultural Science 28(2): 185-193

Seeds from 7 species of temperate Cymbidium species, produced by self- and cross-pollination, were cultured aseptically to produce asymbiotic plants and also material for micropropagation. The seeds took 10 to 13 months to mature (after pollination) and then required 145 to 294 days to germinate. Seeds of C. pumilum and those of a hybrid between C. faberi Daeilpum and an unknown western species developed protocorm-like bodies and readily formed organs.
