Asymmetrical udder syndrome in dairy cows

Asymmetrical udder syndrome in dairy cows

Veterinary Record 123(8): 211-212

Udder asymmetry which had occurred sporadically over a number of years in one dairy Shorthorn and 5 Friesian herds is reported. The onset was insidious and invariably unilateral with one or two quarters smaller than the others. Both cows and heifers were affected. Milk yields from affected quarters were substantially reduced compared with those from other quarters. No abnormalities of teats, udder tissue, supramammary lymph nodes or mammary veins were seen.
