Attack on the parasitized host by a primary solitary parasitoid, Encarsia formosa (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae): the second female pierces, with her ovipositor, the egg laid by the first one

Attack on the parasitized host by a primary solitary parasitoid, Encarsia formosa (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae): the second female pierces, with her ovipositor, the egg laid by the first one

Applied Entomology and Zoology 22(4): 644-645

Females of Encarsia formosa were observed to persistently pierce with their ovipositors individual eggs previously deposited in larvae of Trialeurodes vaporariorum by conspecific females. Usually the egg was destroyed and the female would then deposit her own egg in the host.
