Attempt at a non-surgical cure of abdominal hydatid cysts by puncture

Attempt at a non-surgical cure of abdominal hydatid cysts by puncture

Annales de Parasitologie Humaine et Comparee 61(6): 689-692

A technique for the treatment of hydatid cysts was developed in Tunisia where hydatidosis is a major public health problem. It was named PAIR for puncture-aspiration-injection-re-aspiration and was developed in sheep. A needle is inserted under echographic guidance, the fluid is withdrawn and replaced with an equivalent amount of hypertonic serum which is left in situ for 10 min and then removed. A benzimidazole is prescribed before and after PAIR.
