Attractancy and species specificity of 6-acetoxy-5-hexadecanolide, a mosquito oviposition attractant pheromone

Attractancy and species specificity of 6-acetoxy-5-hexadecanolide, a mosquito oviposition attractant pheromone

Journal of Chemical Ecology 13(2): 245-252

Four stereoisomers of 6-acetoxy-5-hexadecanolide, a mosquito oviposition attractant pheromone, were bioassayed for their activity on culicids. Only the (-)-(5R,6S)-isomer was active in attracting females of Culex quinquefasciatus for oviposition at dosages of <more or =>0.5 micro g/100 ml water with the floating-cap method. The activity of this isomer increased 50-fold when it was applied directly to the water surface.
