Attracting ability of wheat ears for 15N under different nitrogen nutrition levels

In pot experiments the attracting ability (for translocated nutrients) of spring wheat ears was determined by measuring the 15N which entered the grain and glumes under 3 different rates of N nutrition. Attracting ability was higher under opt. N conditions than under N deficit or excess due to changes in metabolic activity in the flower, glumes and grain. Max. of DW grains and straw and protein yield/pot resulted with the opt. rate of applied N.
