Augmentation of Chrysopa spp. to control cotton aphids by intercropping cotton and safflower

Safflower was intercropped in cotton fields as a means of augmenting Chrysopa and Chrysoperla spp. to control cotton aphids in Liaoning, China. The safflowers were naturally infested with Myzus persicae and attracted as many as 41 000 specimens of Chrysopa/mu including C. formosa, C. sinica and Chrysopa septempunctata. The species of Chrysopa and Chrysoperla multiplied and gave effective control of the cotton aphids.
