Aujeszky's disease: vaccines and diagnostics

Aujeszky's disease: vaccines and diagnostics

Veterinary Record 122(15): 371-371

The use of a gI-negative vaccine (a vaccine that does not express glycoprotein I) combined with culling of gI-seropositive infected pigs to achieve elimination of Aujeszky's disease (AD) field virus is described. All breeding pigs were vaccinated with the gI-negative vaccine at a 4-5 month interval. Pigs with antibodies to gI, detected by a newly developed gI ELISA, were considered (latently) infected and removed from the herd.
