Australian research on tolerance to toxic manganese

A brief outline is given of work on Mn tolerance in pasture grasses and legumes and other crops, notably wheat. X-ray analysis of Mn distribution in Mn-tolerant wheat Carazinho and Mn-sensitive Teal revealed Mn at no more than barely detectable levels in Teal, while in Carazinho the highest Mn levels occurred in the leaf epidermis and vascular bundles, and in the root cortex.
