Autodehelminthizing capacity of soils in two Mexican localities

Autodehelminthizing capacity of soils in two Mexican localities

Helminthologia (Bratislava): 234: 237-241

The self-cleansing capacity of soils at 2 localities in the Mexican Mesa Central plateau (1000 to 2000 m above sea level) from the eggs of animal and human nematodes was assessed as relatively low. 41 soil samples from cultivated fields, pastures, village grounds and virgin wasteland, on which Ascaris eggs had been placed as baits for ovicidal organisms, were examined. 75.6% contained damaged eggs but their proportion was only 5 to 50% of the total egg number.
