The fully automated system for harvesting stalk-cut air-cured tobacco utilizes a self-propelled protype harvester which detaches and inverts mature burley plants. Horizontally opposed notches, cut near the base of the plant, facilitate placement into continuous-slot receivers which are mounted in portable curing frames. Six portable curing frames can be simultaneously carried on the harvester. Field tests indicated that a harvesting rate of 0.2 ha/h was achievable with the system.
