A new system of automated distribution of feed in a dairy of 200 cows is described. The animals are free-housed in a shed with temp. 10-16 degrees C and 60% RH. They are fed pellets of 8 mm diam. and specific mass 750 kg/msuperscript 3, containing a variety of feedstuffs, e.g. grain, pulses, oilseed and milled maize. According to the volume of milk produced, the cows are divided into 8 groups, each group having different feed rations. Rationing is done with a +or-5% accuracy.
