A new method for the determination of the activity of Beta -glucosidase in soils is communicated. The soil is buffered to pH 6.2, salicine is added as a substrate and the batch is incubated by using a rotating shaker in an incubator at 37 degrees C for 5 hours. Saligenin, formed by the enzymatic action of Beta -glucosidase, is determined by an automated continuous flow method.
