Automatic counting and sizing of particles from 200 - 3000 mu m. Projected Image Particle Analyser (PIPA)

Both laboratory-scale and field-scale versions have been designed and built. The system operates by registering the shadows cast by particles suspended in fluid with the aid of a multiple-diode sensor. Tests were carried out to determine the concentration of small live food particles such as the copepod Acartia tonsa and the branchiopod, Artemia salina.
