Available phosphorus in tropical soils: its relation with phosphorus determined by two chemical extraction methods
A study was carried out with 32P labelled exchangeable phosphate ions. It showed that plants take up phosphorus from mineral soil with a specific radioactivity equal to that of the soil solution. It is posible to calculate the percentage of available phosphorus in chemically extracted phosphorus by replacing the plant with the routine extractants used to determine phosphorus fertility level in soils. The experiments were made on 21 tropical soils using Olsen's and Olsen-Dabin's methods.
