Behavioural studies on yearling horses in the field environment. 3. Effects of the pasture shape on the behaviour of horses

Each of three different rectangular pastures had the same square measure of 2.4 ha, but the length and breadth proportions differed, being 1:1 in pasture A, 1:2 in B, and 1:4 in C. Thoroughbred herds composed of six yearlings each were put on the three pastures and their behaviour was recorded continuously. The mean distances of locomotion of the horses on the three pastures were the same (about 5000 m per 7 hours).
