Bovine plasma concentrations of 1 alpha , 25-dihydroxyvitamin D and parathyroid hormone in parturient paresis

Bovine plasma concentrations of 1 alpha , 25-dihydroxyvitamin D and parathyroid hormone in parturient paresis

Journal of the Japan Veterinary Medical Association 41(1): 13-16

The first clinical examination of 23 cows, which developed parturient paresis within two days of parturition, revealed anorexia, a reduction in skin temperature, and depression of consciousness in 15 (65%), 9 (39%) and 3 (13%), respectively. The plasma calcium was 6.3 +or- 1.7 mg/dl, inorganic phosphorus 3.8 +or- 2.1 mg/dl, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D 198.6 +or- 61.6 pg/ml, and parathyroid hormone 7.5 +or- 3.4 mIU/ml.
