Breed-season-parity factors for Canadian dairy goat lactation yields: application to the calculation of breed class averages

Breed-season-parity factors for Canadian dairy goat lactation yields: application to the calculation of breed class averages

Annual Research Report, Centre for Genetic Improvement of Livestock, University of Guelph: 15

Data on 4936 lactations of 3542 goats in 1st, 2nd or 3rd parity were analysed using least-squares procedures. Breed, age, season, parity and herd-year significantly affected yields of milk, fat and protein. Using results from the analysis, breed class averages for each goat's actual yield were calculated as a percentage of the expected yield given her breed, age, season of freshening and lactation number.
