Cellulolytic activity of soil microfungi in some forest soils
Biologia (Bratislava) 42(5): 469-475
Soils were sampled and temp. at 5 cm depth was measured monthly during the 1983 and 1984 growing seasons at 9 sites of international (MAB) ecosystem studies in the Male Karpaty Mts., Czechoslovakia. Soil cellulolytic activity, measured on filter paper under standard laboratory conditions, was significantly higher in 1983, when the mean soil temp. was 2-3 degrees C higher at each site than in 1984. The soil cellulolytic activity was positively related to differences in the general physical and chemical quality of the soil between sites. Fourteen genera of microfungi were isolated from the decomposing filter paper.
