Changes in the weed flora in south-eastern Australia due to cropping and control practices

Changes in the weed flora in south-eastern Australia due to cropping and control practices

Plant Protection Quarterly 2(1): 3-7

The history of crop management practices and their effect on the weed flora in SE Australia is discussed. Initially weeds of UK cereal crops contaminated those of the 1st Australian settlements, but later weeds of drier areas became established. Before the 1940s the weeds were adapted to the cultivation and late sowing practices of that time.
