Chemical weed control in medicinal plant crops. Part 8. Balm (Melissa officinalis L.)

Chemical weed control in medicinal plant crops. Part 8. Balm (Melissa officinalis L.)

Pharmazie 42(3): 191-195

The results of 9-year trials with more than 60 herbicides are reported. Suitable spray programmes (pre- and post-emergence and in established crops) using simazine, desmetryn, bentazone, trifluralin, metobromuron, prometryne, propyzamide and alloxydim-Na were devised and their effects on the crop and weeds are discussed. The treatments did not injure the crop or affect yields, essential oil content or quality (citral a + b:d-citronellal percentage).
