Three sheep of about 45 kg with ileocaecal re-entrant cannula were given hay of medium or good quality or grass meal or 75% good hay and 25% soyabean meal, alone or with 0.2% formalin, or 25% cottonseed meal. Daily DM intake reached 2 to 3% of body weight. With hay or grass meal daily crude protein intake was from 145 to 170 and with supplements from 220 to 260 g.
