Comparative observations on induction of oestrus in anoestrous cows through corpus luteum enucleation and administration of a prostaglandin analogue

Comparative observations on induction of oestrus in anoestrous cows through corpus luteum enucleation and administration of a prostaglandin analogue

Monatshefte fur Veterinarmedizin 41(21): 723-725

113 cows were subjected to corpus luteum enucleation, and another 114 cows were injected with 500 micro g cloprostenol. In the 2 groups, 41.6 and 34.5% of cows resp. were in postpartum anoestrus, while the remainder were in postinsemination anoestrus (1-6 inseminations). 80.5 and 94.7% of cows in the 2 groups came into oestrus after treatment (P<0.001), while the others proved to have had silent ovulations. Oestrous cycle length did not differ significantly between the 2 groups.
