In field trials on good rye complex soil in 1976-79, potatoes were given 0-240 kg N/ha as mineral fertilizer or 0-360 kg N as pig slurry applied in autumn or spring. Tuber yields increased from 21.3 t/ha with no N to 25.3-26.0 t with mineral N and 25.1-30.0 and 30.2-34.7 t with slurry applied in autumn and spring, resp. Slurry reduced tuber starch content less than did mineral N and generally increased starch yield. CP yield was highest (625-636 kg/ha) with slurry applied in autumn.
