Composition of the carbohydrate fraction of royal jelly and worker jelly in relation to larval age

Composition of the carbohydrate fraction of royal jelly and worker jelly in relation to larval age

Apicoltura, Italy (1): 123-139

Gas chromatography using short capillary columns was used for quantitative analysis of the sugars of honeybee larval foods. Worker jelly had a sucrose content considerably lower than that of royal jelly, but the total sugar content increased more with larval age in worker jelly. Both types of food showed an increase in fructose content and a decrease in glucose and sucrose contents.
