Contribution to knowledge of the determination of the ant-plant relation in Pseudomyrmex ferruginea F. Smith (Hymenoptera, Formicidae), a mutualist species of various Neotropical species of Acacia

Folia Entomologica Mexicana 1986; (65): 109-117

Studies in Mexico using Acacia cornigera indicated that adults of Pseudomyrmex ferruginea recognise the species of Acacia on which they feed not by mechanisms based on experience of feeding or social grouping in early adult life but from experience 'learned' in the immature stages.
