Through the analysis of data on chemical and morphological features in 17 taxa of Thymus section Serpyllum, by a method described previously, 41-52, groups in 3 main field subspaces could be equated with the series Praecoces, Pannonici and Pulegioidei. Subsection Marginati, series Marginati, represented by T. pulcherrimus ssp. sudeticus, could also be distinguished, and appeared to constitute a link between the series Praecoces and subsection Camptodromi.
