Contribution to the development of a model of the international trade in tropical logs

, : Contribution to the development of a model of the international trade in tropical logs. Bois et Forets des Tropiques (209): 65-79

Models are presented for 2 regions, Africa and Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Each model uses econometric equations of supply and demand for each sub-region and country. Quadratic programming is then used to calculate the spatial equilibrium in quantities and prices. The model for Europe and Africa is a modification of that of D.M.

A gravity model was used (1) to synthesise the system of economic—and, to some extent, political—influences which determined the multilateral flow of tropical logs during the period 1967 to 1973 and (2) to evaluate the changes in the relative...

Adams, D.M., 1985: A spatial equilibrium model of African-European trade in tropical logs and sawnwood. Data from 1966-80 were used to develop a model that simulates sawnwood consumption and production in tropical Africa and Europe, log production in Africa, and the prices and trade flows resulting from market exchange. Tropical sawnwood demand in E...
