Dry, viable pollen from diploid and tetraploid sugarbeet was stored for 9, 10 or 22 months in gelatin capsules at -35 degrees C, and then used to pollinate male-sterile monogerm diploid plants. In 1983, 35 out of 47 pollinated flowers produced fruits; in 1984, 9 out of 15.
