In studies of 1059 crosses and varieties in 1982, 1059 in 1983, 542 in 1984 and 122 in 1985 for resistance of the tubers to mechanical injury, using a 1-9 scale of increasing resistance, 43% of the 2429 hybrids tested were resistant, the highest resistance being found in crosses between 2 resistant varieties.
