Contribution to the problems of breeding for grain yield by studying the F2 generation from crosses of two-rowed and six-rowed barley
In a study of yield and yield components in the F2 from crosses of 2 two-rowed lines with 3 six-rowed varieties, grain yields per spike and per plant were higher in six-rowed segregates than two-rowed ones, although the latter had longer primary tillers and more fertile tillers/plant. The only characters closely correlated with grain yield/plant were fertile tillers/plant and grain yield/spike, but the correlation with grain yield/spike was less close in six-rowed than two-rowed segregates.
