Contribution to the studies on the first, generative progeny of Fragaria X ananassa polyhaploids

Crosses were made between F. ananassa and Potentilla spp. Polyhaploids were obtained by anther cultured followed by open pollination, selfing, crossing and backcrossing to Potentilla. Some arose apomictically. The pollen grain size, stainability and germination of 195 polyhaploid plants, derived either by apomixis (MR) or by anther culture (A), were studied. Variability in the diameter of pollen grains was greater in the polyhaploids than in control varieties.
