Contribution to the study of the role of termites in the humus making process of the tropical forest soils

Contribution to the study of the role of termites in the humus making process of the tropical forest soils

Soil Micromorphology: 331-335

The study of the ultrastructure of fresh faeces of Macrotermes muelleri, simultaneously ingesting vegetal fragments and mineral particles reveals organo-mineral associations of different types created by their intestinal mixing. Some of these associations remain after alkaline extraction of the humic cementing agents, and permit identification of different humic fractions: (inherited, microbial and insoluble humin).
