Control of LH and PRL secretion during lactational anestrus in the pig

, : Control of LH and PRL secretion during lactational anestrus in the pig. 11th International Congress on Animal Reproduction and Artificial Insemination, University College Dublin, Ireland, June 26-30-1988 Volume 2 Brief communications (Paper 44): 3

On days 15-22 after birth, litters from 6 Large White sows were each (1) allowed normal sucking; (2) removed from the sow for 6 h; (3) kept with the sow but prevented from sucking for 6 h. Blood concentration of LH in sows subjected to the 1st regime was <1 ng/ml, but prolactin concentration peaked 6-12 min after each period of suckling. In sows on the 2nd regime, prolactin concentration fell when piglets were removed, and was <3 ng/ml after 3 h.
