Trials in 1984-85 showed the importance of autumn herbicide applications in ensuring good control of Medicago sativa during the early stages of a following no-tillage maize crop. Maize emerged earlier, the stand was more vigorous and yields higher with autumn treatments but a follow-up was required pre-em. to maintain control.
