Control of bovine mastitis in a group of small dairy farms in Basso Piave

Control of bovine mastitis in a group of small dairy farms in Basso Piave

Atti della Societa Italiana di Buiatria 17: 295-303

The Laboratorio Analisi Latte di Padova dell'A.R.A.V. conducts bimonthly testing on small farms (with 2-20 cows) in the Basso Piave region of Italy. Advice is given on feeding, milking, hygiene and health of the cows. Recommendations for mastitis therapy and preventative measures are given based on cell count and CMT analyses of milk samples. During 1983 and 1984, 155 and 250 farms were tested. Of the 1360 and 2330 quarter samples tested in the 2 yr, resp., 25.14 and 30.21% were CMT-positive.
