Control of larvae of the spruce sawfly (Cephalcia abietis L.) and the effect of insecticides on the development of the egg parasitoid Trichogramma sp

Control of larvae of the spruce sawfly (Cephalcia abietis L.) and the effect of insecticides on the development of the egg parasitoid Trichogramma sp

Lesnictvi 31(12): 1055-1072

A mass outbreak of Cephalcia abietis was observed over extensive areas of spruce in Bohemia and Moravia, Czechoslovakia, from 1979 onwards. The insecticides in use at the time were ineffective, so new ones were tested by aerial application in 1981-83. Of the treatments tested, thiocyclam (Evisect) at 1 kg/ha was the most effective, causing 90% larval mortality and preventing damage in the treated stands.
